Clinton Township Goodfellows serve up pasta Wednesday

The Clinton Township Goodfellows have provided toys for children at Christmastime, for the past 35 years. That kind of commitment requires funding and much of that is generated by the annual “No Child without a Christmas: Spaghetti Dinner” from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mirage Banquet & Catering in Clinton Township.

It’s a great excuse not to cook. Plus everyone loves pasta and the outing is for a good cause. Even Rosco the Clown is planning to attend the event so it promises to be entertaining, too.

“I have 11 grandchildren and I know what it is like to see joy and happy faces on Christmas Day,” said Beverly Puchalski of Clinton Township and a member of the Goodfellows for 14 years. “We want to help other families bring smiles to their kids too and I do my part to make that happen.”

Tickets for the event are $8 each at the door. Children under age 5 are free. This includes a choice of pasta along with a salad, rolls with butter, beverages and dessert.

Also provided to entertain the crowds -- many of whom have made the dinner a family tradition -- is an extensive basket raffle that will include an American Girl Doll and iPad and a 50/50 drawing. Helping to support the event will be a group of students from Chippewa Valley High School, event sponsors including the Mirage and Vince and Joe’s Gourmet Markets and of course volunteers such as Grandma Puchalski.

Over the years this traditional fundraiser is estimated to have assisted more than 10,000 families and 23,000 children.

“We leave gifts unwrapped so the parents can do that and give them to their own kids that day,” Puchalski said. “It will make them feel good also.”

The Mirage is at 16980 18 Mile Road, Clinton Township, 586-228-2222. Tax deductible donations can be made payable to Clinton Township Goodfellows, P.O. Box 380643, Clinton Township, MI 48038. For more information visit clintontownshipgoodfellows.com
